Itinerary Sillustani Towers temple with Fertility Temple 1 Day
DAY 1: Full day Sillustani Towers and Inca Temple of Fertility
Your private driver and tour guide will pick you up from your hotel for your tour of Sillustani and Chucuito.
On our first stop we will visit the interesting archaeological site of Sillustani. This site is a pre-Inca sacred cemetery that houses elevated tombs built in the form of tall towers made of giant stones.
You will also have the opportunity to visit some local houses where you will learn about daily life in this part of the Andes. After the tour, we will take you back to Puno for lunch.
In the afternoon we will take you to Chucuito. Chucuito is one of the oldest towns in the region and is located 18 kilometers south of Puno. Here you will visit the ancient and exciting Temple of Fertility, which is the “must see” attraction in Chucuito.
It is a small temple with dozens of meter-high stone phalluses planted in the ground. Unfortunately, many of the stones were taken years ago by locals and the temple was buried and abandoned.
However, in recent years archaeologists have restored the temple to its former splendor and most of the phalluses have been returned to their original location.
The temple continues to work its magic as local women still sneak into the temple at night, with coca leaves and chicha, to perform a ceremony designed to help them get pregnant.
After the tour, we will take you back to your hotel.
