Itinerary Colca Canyon trek 2 Days / 1 Night
DAY 1: AREQUIPA – CHIVAY – CONDOR CROSS – SAN JUAN DE CHUCCHO – SANGALLE OASIS
Your adventure begins with an early morning pickup from your hotel at 3:00 a.m. We will travel for approximately three hours to Chivay, where we will arrive around 6:30 a.m. to enjoy breakfast.
After breakfast, we continue to the famous Condor Cross (Cruz del Cóndor), arriving at approximately 8:30 a.m. Here, we will spend around 40 minutes admiring the breathtaking scenery of the Colca Canyon and watching the majestic Andean condors soaring above one of the deepest canyons in the world.
Around 9:30 a.m., we will arrive in San Miguel, where we begin our trek. The hike takes approximately 3 hours downhill to the traditional community of San Juan de Chuccho, where a delicious homemade lunch will be served by a local family.
After lunch, we continue hiking for another 3 hours through the heart of the canyon until we reach the beautiful Sangalle Oasis. Surrounded by lush vegetation, this peaceful oasis offers the perfect place to relax, enjoy the swimming pools, and spend a memorable evening around a campfire beneath the stars.
Accommodation will be in comfortable bungalows.
DAY 2: SANGALLE – CABANACONDE – CHIVAY – AREQUIP
The day begins early at 5:00 a.m. with the challenging uphill hike back to Cabanaconde, taking approximately 3 hours.
Upon arrival at around 8:30 a.m., we will enjoy breakfast before traveling back to Chivay. Along the way, we will stop at the scenic viewpoint of Antahuilque, where you can admire impressive pre-Inca agricultural terraces.
Our next stop is the traditional village of Maca, famous for its colonial church and local handicrafts.
Around 11:30 a.m., we arrive in Yanque, where you will have the opportunity to visit the relaxing hot springs (optional).
Afterwards, we return to Chivay for lunch before beginning our journey back to Arequipa at approximately 1:30 p.m.
During the return trip, we will stop at the Andes Viewpoint (4,910 m / 16,109 ft), offering spectacular views of the volcanoes Hualca Hualca, Sabancaya, Ampato, Chachani, and El Misti.
We will also visit the Pampa Cañahuas National Reserve, where you can observe wild vicuñas along with the unique flora and fauna of the Andean highlands.
Estimated arrival in Arequipa is around 5:30 p.m.
