Inca Uyo, the “Fertility Temple”
In Chucuito, 18 km from Puno, a walled enclosure of fine Inca stonework holds dozens of carved phallic stones. Its name comes from the Aymara uyu, “enclosure”: the Inca’s enclosure. Archaeologists note that many stones were placed during 20th-century restoration, while fertility rituals continue as a living local tradition.
