Can I visit Machu Picchu in one day from Cusco?
Yes. The full-day tour leaves Cusco before dawn and returns at night, with a guided visit of the citadel. It is a long day but the easiest option if you have little time.
What is Machu Picchu by car?
The overland route: a scenic drive to Hidroeléctrica and a flat walk of about 11 km along the railway to Aguas Calientes, with the visit on day two. It is the cheapest way in.
How far in advance should I book Machu Picchu?
For June to August, one to three months ahead; the rest of the year, a few weeks is usually enough. Huayna Picchu sells out first.
What altitude is Machu Picchu?
About 2,430 m, lower than Cusco (≈3,400 m), so it is usually comfortable even for travellers sensitive to altitude.
